The Reservoir Committee of the Vision 2020 Environmental Task Group is a group of concerned citizens working to solve the Reservoir's problems.  We have monthly meetings with about a dozen or so individuals in attendance.  Anyone with an interest in the Reservoir is welcome to attend.  You may also join our email list to receive regular notices about the group's activities.  Email List Instructions

Previous Activities This Year:

  • Res Cleanup - Saturday October 4th, Starting at 11am.

Plans for the Reservoir clean-up have been finalized.  A truckload of woodchips is being delivered by Arlington DPW before Saturday, so we'll be spreading it along the walking trail on the farm side.  We plan to also prune back some of the weeds (especially around the newly planted trees) and a local girl scout troop will be joining us to help with litter pick-up.  (The clean-up will NOT be dealing with weeds in the water...we are awaiting the results of testing by Aquatic Control to determine the best course of action to deal with them.)
Date: Saturday, October 4th (rain or shine...unless it's a torrential downpour; an e-mail will be sent out if we need to cancel).
    Time: starting at 11am
Location: we'll meet at the woodchip pile, which should be at the entrance to the wooded area between the beach and the farm on Lowell St.
What to bring: rake, shovel, wheelbarrow, hand pruner, gardening gloves
What will be provided: trash bags, water, snacks

  • Some highlights from the Reservoir meeting on September 26, 2007.
    - Tree planting should begin in the next couple of weeks!  How many planted at this time will depend on the amount of good stock that the contractor can obtain from the nursery right now.  The rest of the trees will be planted in the spring.
    - It was decided that we will NOT have a fall clean-up day...we'll wait until spring.  However, we will be planning a walk-around for sometime in early November to check out all the new trees that were planted.

  • A Visual Diary : The Arlington Reservoir Tree Replacement Project is an exhibit of work being displayed through December by Res Committee Member and Conservation Commissioner Cathy Garnett.  We will gather for a small reception to view her works, discuss the plantings and help to plan for a larger display of this project, which will be included in the "Images of Arlington" spring 2007 exhibit to celebrate Arlington's 200th celebration.  Cathy's project is supported in part by a grant from the Arlington Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.  Plan for new tree planting at the Res:  Tree Planting Plan
