About The
Exhibit:
The photo exhibit is entitled “In Our Family” and is
a series of portraits
of twenty families. Beautiful family photographs
are accompanied by written
interviews from the point of view of the kids,
the parents, and all the family
members. “In Our Family” is part
of a series of traveling exhibits created
by The Family Diversity Project of
Amherst, MA. Photos by Gigi Kaeser and
interviews by Peggy Gillespie
and Rebekah Boyd. Their exhibitions have been in
schools,
universities, churches, temples, corporate offices and museums all
over the
world, winning awards and praise everywhere for its beautiful
celebration of
family in every sense of the word.
Bringing this renowned exhibition to Arlington was a
major accomplishment
spear-headed by Lonna Davis and Charlotte Milan, two
Arlington parents
interested in giving the community the opportunity to see
for themselves this
interactive exploration of what family means
today. The Safe Schools Task Force
(SSTF) immediately embraced the
project, and in short order numerous groups
including the Human Rights
Commission, The Metco Program, Vision 2020, The Gay
Straight Alliance
at the High School, and The Bishop and Thompson Schools PTO’s
joined up as
supporters to bring the exhibit to Arlington.
